Best Noise Reduction
 
I NEED something for noise reduction, price is NO object, i've just recieved a tape of my greatgreatgreat grandfather telling of his migration to america! Very noisy, im pretty sure my grandmother was just pointing the mic twords her the whole time, any ideas? I'm mac primary, but can get my hands on a windows.
P.S. i know this isnt exactly the perfect place for this post, but u guys are all i got =) hahaha thanks in advance!

I agree with Jimmy in the sense of Cedar knows noise reduction better than almost anyone around, they have done lots of audio forensics for Scotland Yard, Military, FAA, etc. If price is no object, they are the ones to do the work.

If you want to do it yourself, the Cedar outboard gear and plug-ins are also well regarded. I personally use the WAVES Restoration Bundle and Sound Soap Pro. Like most other software, certain packages are better at reducing certain types of noise. We received a very bad dub of the film "7even" that we included in our Brad Pitt Biography for A&E. It was so hissy that you barely could hear Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as they stood whispering in the rain. So you had bad dub, rain and the two talent are whispering. Using several of the components in the Waves Restoration bundle, we were able to take the audio from unusable to usable for broadcast. I was impressed.
