Wind muff:

I need help finding a cheap effective wind muff



XLR Cables:

Not sure about these cords, so I need one that is at least 25' (ft) long. So if anyone could recommend a brand or just a good cord let me know please? Like I said I don't really know a whole lot about this, so help is very much appreciated and thanks every for answering my lavaliere thread.

I use Van Damme cables but I don't know if that's just a UK thing.

is the standard but is expensive. I try to get away with using the supplied foam shield and a Dead Cat with my Rode NTG-2 but beware

If you are fairly new to XLR cable matters could I suggest you have a look at this:

It's quite easy to damage long audio cables if you don't know how to coil them properly.

holy crap that is expensive! I guess the real question is, do you make your living (or will you) by using this equipment? If so, invest in the higher / better quality. If not and you are "testing the waters" then try something that is less of a gamble. I bought a fury cover on ebay for my AT897. Works pretty well (still get rumble when pointed head on or to the side of a 30 mph wind (mountain top recording).

I can point you to the seller for the one I got (it is a business store). It was about $27 for a fur cover for my AT897 and for a hand held Azden.

I'll be using it for some outdoor shoots, small videos, possible outside graduations etc.. etc.. 25 mph or less winds.

also do I just put the mic in there then mount it on the boom pole or what? Can anyone help me out with this please? It's the last think I have to know before I place the order, thanks a lot guys.

Softie is the way to go. Call B&H and ask which model for the AT897. The size of the hole is critical. Lightwave and K-Tek also make versions that are well regarded. Haven't used the K-Tek, but I prefer the Rycote softie to the Lightwave. Not knocking the Lightwave. Lots of people like them, but when I've compared the two, the Rycote seemed like it had better construction to me. Also, I have a recent catalog from B&H that shows a new slip-on type windscreen made by Rycote that doesn't have fur. Don't know anything about them, but it's worth investigating. Don't settle for an untried off brand. If the fur gets matted easily, it will interfere with the effectiveness of the interference tube of the shotgun. While the things look simple, there's more to them than seems obvious.
