shockmounts: lower profile ?
 

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a low-cost (< $50) microphone shockmount that is low profile. I use the Sennheiser MZS-CAM Camera Mounted Shotgun Microphone Shockmount, but it is really quite tall. I've used the Lightwave minimount, but it seems to unscrew too often.

You can then modify the height as needed.

Jeez, I thought I was clever making my own Kinos! Harold, you get the "most homemade" trophy for the DVInfo website. How does it all work? (sunshade, bracket, mic mount, etc.?) I bow to the new king of DIY.

Thanks for the compliments.

The Blue handle covers are Bike Handle Bar units, but I like the "alien plasma weapon" idea.

All the mods seem to work very well, cheap and easy to make, or replace if necessary. That group of DIY's parts cost only about $5 to $10 total. You can figure out how much, if I went out and bought them all.

These Stilt Skates are what I built and skated on for some 30+ yrs. I was only 7' 9.5" on them. Now those were DIY.

I have this and it works well and is small and compact.

I'm guessing you've also worked out some DIY emergency medical procedures.

so can you film while skating on those?

I built those Stilt Skates my self some 35+ yrs ago, one of the very few "Crazy's" in the USA (or probably the world) to ever skate that way. I went off them about the time I retired in Dec 2001, as my feet grew from a size 12 to a size 13. I decided not to spend the $$$$$ for new boots and skate plates just for them. So I still skate on my regular skates.

I could do simple spins, a couple of jumps, and some fancy foot work on the Stilt Skates, even floorgarded with them. For me, shooting video from skates is easy, just never did it much from those skates. It was an interesting view though.

With the protective gear I've worn over these last decades, I seldom get hurt. Never did get hurt on the Stilts, even though I did fall from time to time from them.

The gal in the Pic was a fellow Court Services Officer, and she was 5' 3" tall.

I use these also. They weight nothing and have a low profile. Make sure the diameter of your mic is not to large.

Even though they don't give the size specs, that Beyerdynamic EA86 looks to be about the same overall height as the two I made up. Since I already had the VHS Hard Covers and the mount units hanging around, they cost me maybe 50 cents in parts. Took about 30 mins to make each one.
