Heavenly tiny quality pre-amp/limiter

i currently use a mackie satellite / joe meek stereo pre-amps to SE or AKG condensor mics and am very pleased with the sound - i get the hottest signal - plus the joe meek has compressor/limiters as well and allows me not to worry to much if the sound clips as the limiter is quite 'musical' -ie no horrible distortion. This is for tripod use.

BUT what i really want is a stereo pre-amp with a limiter that i can use on my Sony HDV hotshoe when handheld. Say the size of a senheisser wireless box or packet of cigarettes.

The nearest i have found is the SoundPre battery powered pre-amp with limiter but these are not compact enough for me - does anyone know of one or this a marketing opportunity for an enterpreneur??

THanks

And I'm sure there are others I can't remember, and in the recorder device category as well.

How about a Sound Devices MixPre clipped to your belt?

Alex, thanks, very comprehensive but none of them have limiters which i think is essential BUT for travelling light one of these will be perfect complement to my Mackie/Joe Meek.

Yup, maybe a SD MixPre on my belt will do the trick.

Thanks all.
