The little monitor speaker that could: ADAM A7

I was looking for something else when I noticed ADAM monitor speakers mentioned on the local dealers website. Looked interesting (I have been thinking about getting good nearfieds for some time), I found positive reviews, I went to listen.

Amazing top end! 3D soundfield! I bought a pair (about $1000) the same day I came across them.

Now I am selling my 75 liter 3.5-way custom built speakers and NAD 208 250W power amp and replacing them with these! Tought it would never happen. $1000 minimonitors replacing a $4000 hi-fi system. Or maybe I buy another pair and keep the first ones as nearfields.

Conclusion: if you are considering nearfield monitors for critical listening, listen to these.

If this sounds like a sales pitch, sorry, I am just so enthusiastic about these. One caveat: being small thay can not have much low bass. Not problem for me, they are married with Genelec 7071 sub. That combo seems able to put out about 105 dB clean SPL form 18 Hz to 35 kHz which is enough for me. If not, I'll seek out the big brother ADAM S2.5A.

Agreed, the ADAM A7s rock Petri. I wanted something that I could drive directly from the HP nw8440 workstation out at the clients and the A7s do that with mucho gusto. I don't run a sub however, could scare them.

I too bought them the same day I first heard them. I took along my Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band reference CD and ended up with an audience sitting listening to the A7s sited on the agents desk. I thought about setting up a tent out at the Easter show to offset the cost.

A testament to the product is always a similar follow up model and Adam now have a smaller/cheaper desktop set, called A5.

Cheers.

What sound card are you using? One of the things that has kept me from considering ADAM's is the lack of digital input, which the JBL's do have.
