slating with DAT

When using harddisk recorders I always insist that the track number be written on the slate and spoken by the slate person. But with DAT there are no track numbers. Does the editor just listen for the take number in this case? Also how do you keep a log with DAT, by the scene and take numbers?

This is part of the sound report. You log the scene, take, and time on your sound report. If you're a single person team, it's a lot harder, but if you're just the mixer and have a boom op it's a lot easier to do. There isn't any difference between creating a sound report on DAT and creating one with a DAT except you don't have ISO tracks and sound reports aren't created automatically for you.
