Boompole on the cheap
I've kinda posted about this before, but the thread hasn't been active in while. Thought I'd make a seperate thread and see what responses I get.
I've got the beyerdynamic ea-86 shockmount and the at-835b. I'm planning on buying a nice $30 telescoping painting pole from lowes and am trying to figure out how I can attach the shockmount to the end. I've seen this before: http://www.volksmovie.com/images/tech/poormansboompole.jpg I don't know if anyone has this set up or has their own home built booms that do the trick. If so, I'd love to see them/hear how you did it. Please shoot me an email with pictures or a link to your site. I'd like to have a professional boom, but as far as I'm concerned it's really not the most essential part of my kit. A nice tripod comes before a boom pole. I don't care if it has gitzo printed on it, just so long as it holds my at-835b and gets the job done with minimal handeling noise! Thanks everyone! |
Hi Devin,
Check out this thread. A good boom pole on the cheap is a collapsible fishing pole with a shock mount screwed on the end. You can make it yourself or buy one from one of the many eBay retailers for not much more than the parts cost. |
Thanks Robert, I checked that post earlier and found it somewhat helpful. However, I'd like to see pics of how people attached the paint pole to the shockmount....like with the paint roller attachment. I've got the general idea, pics would just help out a lot!

I also need a mic boom and just got a flyer in the mail from studio1store.com with a new product listing. They now sell a boom with mount for $89.00 which seems pretty reasonable. I may order it. Here's the link

Home Built Stabilizers may have something http://www.homebuiltstabilizers.com but their bandwidth has been reached for this month.
