Short shotgun on Sony HDR-SR12?
 

Does anyone know of a method to mount a short shotgun (such as the ECM-673) onto a small camcorder such as the hdr-sr12?


Maybe this is a crazy question.....

....but any feedback would be absolutely GREAT.

Use a flash/light bracket perhaps?

ha, seems pretty simple. I'm assuming that a shockmount would fit on just fine on to a light bracket....any brand recomendations?

On some of the Sony-HDR series, I seem to recall a non-standard accessory shoe.
If it is a standard size, there is the RODE SM3 shockmount. It's about halfway down on this page RODE SM3 shockmount

Or you might want to consider a Bracket1 Mini with an over camera cold shoe. Bracket 1 at DVcreators.net

So I went out and bought a Sony HDR series camcorder today to test out. Just for you :)

The accessory shoe is smaller than standard and made for Sony's proprietary gear.

Here is a few photos of the Bracket1 Mini with the over the camera cold shoe mount and RODE SM3 suspension shockmount.

Now, is the bracket-1 only for use on tripods? I would like to be able to use the camera handheld with a short shotgun as well...

Actually, we're doing a little green screen test with it to. Seeing how the HDMI holds up with Reflecmedia.

The Bracket1 works well handheld with just the SM3 and a shotgun. It's still comfortable, not overwhelmingly side heavy as one would expect. I should have taken a pic with it fully loaded. One of our guys in the office put a Sennheiser wireless, a Litepanels micro and the shotgun on it.

OK. Had to toss in the pics of the Sony HDR-SR all decked out and accessorized.

does the mic intrude on the picture at all?

The mic does not intrude into the picture with the Bracket1 solution.

I wound up choosing the tiny Sennheiser MKE400 for runnin' and gunnin' with this camera.

It's a little less obtrusive.

Also, B&H has a little AIS to standard size cold shoe adapter. I was stoked at first, however, the reviews of the $19 product don't seem to be too good. Worth checkin' out though Pearstone | Cold Shoe Adapter for Sony AIS | SSA | B&H Photo

oh yeah i noticed that cold shoe adapter and i will definitely be reading up on it more. it may be a much more cost effect solution....even if i need to get a couple of them

I have a couple of questions for you.

I'm looking at your pictures here and I see some interesting stuff.

You have both the wireless receiver and a Rode shotgun mounted to your camera.

Do you know if I could use this same kind of set up on my HV30?

If so, where do you plug the receiver in? Hot shoe?

Two, where do you plug the Rode in? Mini plug?

Sure, you can use this same set-up on the Canon HV30. The You would need a BeachTek, Sign Video or a Juiced Link XLR adapter to allow for the two mic inputs into the camera's 1/8" miniplug. Another option may be some crazy cable that would break out with two inputs with the channel 1 as the right and channel 2 as the left.

Forgot to mention to the original poster that Adorama has two different style Sony AIS to cold shoe adapters.
