Is my Sony UWP-C1 going to be useless?

Is this true? Can someone explain?
Thanks

I believe you are referring to the spectrum reallocation process the FCC is going through as TV moves to the digital domain, freeing up spectrum. And the FCC is looking at what to do with "whitespace" spectrum, the available spectrum between TV channels.

I believe that situation is in flux.

A couple of web pages to start looking:

Shure - White Spaces

Wireless microphone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Go to the bottom of the above webpage. There is a short section titled "White Space Devices"

White Spaces Coalition - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bill's information is excellent for an overview, but is slightly "dated" as this issue has moved pretty fast in Washington. The fact is that Band C... 698 Mhz to I think 802 Mhz is illegal for wireless microphone use after February 17, 2009. Check this thread:

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/all-thing...-c-owners.html. If the link does not work it is on page two of this forum currently.

It irks me to see folks dumping their band C gear on Ebay to unknowing buyers.

Well, I fell like an unknowing buyer too. Surely Sony, Senn and others knew they were operating on or outside the boundaires of the laws. They need to take care of this.

When did you purchase it? This issue has been, as Bill alludes, in flux for a while. I'd say that if you purchased it after... oh, maybe May or June of 08 you should complain to SONY.

In fairness, no one really knew what was going to happen in the early days of this issue, but as time went on, and those frequencies went on the auction block it didn't take a weatherman to see which direction the wind was blowing.
