Comments on ATR 35s Lavs?
I bought a pair based on the recommendation on Oade.com (The Tapers Section - Microphone FAQ) because it looked like a cost-effective way to expand my mic selection. They arrived today and they have a lot of background hiss to my ears. For $50/pair, you can hardly expect perfection - but comments from anyone who has used these would be a useful reference. Thanks!

We've issued several of these to reporters to use with Edirol R09's with surprising satisfaction. The only thing I can offer is that if you put the battery in backward ---very easy to do, the polarity marks on the battery holder are hard to see -- you get a lot of noise and very low output. Properly installed fresh battery sounds pretty good, at the price these little mikes are a steal. We use Tram50's on our wireless units and if you are looking for a real fine but somewhat pricey mike, these are great. Happy new year! / Battle Vaughan /miamiherald.com video team

Wow, glad I asked - and glad you responded. Those polarity markings are so hard to see that I didn't even know they were there! I had them in backwards and reversing them made a world of difference - amazing. Many thanks, and happy new year!!!

Same to you, glad I could help. The great thing about this board is we can profit from somebody else's problems, er, solutions. I did the backward battery thing myself.....! / Battle Vaughan

I wish everything else in video production had the quality/price ratio that these lav's have....

Who sells them in the U.S.? I see B&H doesn't.

Got mine from Adorama for ~US$24 and got the Hosa stereo to mono Y-cable to use with the pair of mics. I saw them for the same price at Amazon.com.
