Basic settings vs Beachtek
 

Hi everyone,

I'm testing for the first time my Beachtek DXA-8 and my brand new Audio-Technica AT875R mic on my HDR-FX1 camera, I red in the DXA-8 instruction manual, that I should set my camera volume to 20% and adjust the DXA-8's volume to my liking, now I'm new to all this and I was wondering if anyone could give me a couple of pointers on the basic settings they use.

Also I have an option on the DXA-8's limiter option, should I use it? I heard it over did it and that you were better off not using it??

On the FX1, make sure you switch the little "A" to "M" and yes, start at 2-3 for your levels. You'll need to be out of automatic "green box" mode on the camera to get your VU levels to pop up on the screen.

Plug in some headphones and use the VOL switch under the LCD to turn up your headphone level. Start a 0 and slowly open the level on the BeachTek. Try to let the BeachTek go almost to full open and turn down the FX1. Always use fresh batteries on that unit before a shoot.
