RF Interference??

I have a Audix SCX-one HC indoor mic.. I love it. Most of the time. On some occasions it will pick up some bad popping sounds and static. Depending on the location. It is unusable about 50% of the locations. I switched the other day to my Blueline AKG ck93 and there was no popping at all. This mic is 95% as good as the audix. But I would rather use the Audix. How do I get around the popping interference? has any one else had a problem. Also I tried my MKH-415t and it had no interference either..

See if you have a problem with the particular mic or the model. Contact the manufacturer and explain the problem. they may find something they can repair. See if you can get a replacement mic and take it to a location where you had the problem. If the replacement mic doesn't have the problem then it might be mic specific. If the replacement has the same issue then the manufacturer might be able to come up with a solution but it may be a design issue.

I assume you tried all the mics with the same cable, thus eliminating the cable as the problem.
Popping and static are often a sign of moisture in powered mics... or a sick cable, which can check out OK with a cable tester, ohm meter and/or work fine with a dynamic mic.

or your phantom power is sagging. what mixer ? any other powered mics ?

I'd contact Audix and see what they have to say because it doesn't sound like a RF problem, but perhaps a failing preamp in the mic

FWIW, we had a similar problem in a Sennheiser ME66 and it was a bad preamp, which they fixed under warranty...Battle Vaughan /miamiherald.com video team
