Hum with Rode NTK and SD702.

I've been doing some voiceovers and although schoeps cmit5u works great I like the buttery sound out of the Rode NTK. Problem is, after a few seconds a hum starts to develop. It gets louder and louder and louder and pulsates. I've tried everything. Gone to record in a different room. Plugged the NTK into different sockets. Turned off the dog's wireless fence, the hum still lives. But not always. Right now my next best guess is aliens are jamming my NTK. Besides aliens, does anyone have any other thoughts, comments.

This does not happen with any other mic.

The aliens say your abduction is not scheduled until Sunday, and they never do this psych torture beforehand, so it is not that.

Maybe:

Bad cable/connector/solder joint/connector not fully seated - causing motorboating from input capacitors charging and discharging.

Normally inaudible low frequencies from air handling system being picked up by more sensitive mic, would seem random.

Sneak feedback path through headphones to mic, or speakers. How are you monitoring?

Mic line too close to speaker wire or AC.

Output plugged into an input somewhere hidden from obvious view.

Construction down the street.

Large bus idling at stops.

Funky headphone extension cord.

Overhead fan in room on.

Running washing machine vibrating floor.

Kids with monster boom bass in car outside window.

Your description sounds like a classic feedback loop. The Rode probably has more sensitivity to low frequencies than the other mic. I'd look for acoustic feedback first, from your description.
