Zoom H4 Help
 

I have just purchased a second hand H4 and wonder why I can't access the menus.
press the centre button once, great, File, Recording, recording Format, Metronome etc, scroll down to Card to try to format it and then press the centre button again and it kicks me right back up to the top screen.

Same with the input menu, can get 'to' them, just can't get 'into' them when I'm there…

Any help much appreciated

I could be waaaaay off here, but isn't it:
- Push centre button for menu
- Scroll wheel to the option you want
- Push the scroll wheel in (rather than the centre button) to select the menu option?

That's what I do on mine, but I might be missing something obvious.

And even though I do know which button to push, I often push the center menu button again by mistake and have to navigate again, then use the correct (wheel) push-in to complete the task.

And although I can operate tech gear, it seems what I can't do is read... Thanks guys, appreciated.

Not trying to make you feel better Wayne, but even though I know how it works (sort of!) I hate the physical interface on the Zoom H4. Tiny, pokey, and with buttons that are way too small and fiddly for my big fingers.

So yes, I do end up pressing the wrong button. Sometimes I even learn after the 10th time, just before I bounce the thing off the ground a couple of times! Not to mention I find it hard to use in sunlight - but that's not a huge problem in Ireland, whre sunshine typically falls from the clouds in liquid form.

At lesat it was affordable, and does a good job of recording audio, which is the main thing!

Yeah the interface IS a bit 1990's but now I've had a play with it, it all seems quite intuitive and simple to use.

I only need it for simple sound backup when filming videos so it should do the job quite well I think.

So now I'll sell my lovely Tascam DAP1 Dat machine and things will be much more convenient.

Thanks again to everyone for their help, goes to show that DVi is still the best place for getting yourself sorted out. There's always someone to help here. Great stuff
