Very compact headphones for monitoring audio?

I will hopefully be traveling to Africa next summer doing documentary work. Needless to say, I am concerned about traveling as light as possible.

I want to be able to monitor my sound (DVX100a), but do not want to carry bulky over-ear headphones. And I don't want to use cheapo walkman-style in-ear headphones (no isolation from direct sounds).

So, is there compact solution that provides good isolation? I wondered if there were something similar to the in-ear monitors that musicians wear in performances. Thanks for any ideas...

Etymotics. I love em'! I use them for my in-ear onstage monitoring, and also use a pair for monitoring what's being recorded. They are electric, so they can even stand getting a little wet, sound fabulous. I have a pair of ER6 and a pair of ER 4.
The 6's are just fine for most everything.

Well I'll add that I was looking for compact
headphones myself and recently tried these Sonys.
They don't cut the mustard. Not much real-life
difference between these and Sony 7506
weight-wise.
Less comfortable. Less volume. Less isolation.
