Your opinions of the UHF Samson Micro Wireless Mic for the GL-2?

Hi guys,

I am looking for an optional mic for my GL-2 which will work well for multi-purpose documentary/ interview situations...

Does anyone have opinions on the Samson Micro Wireless UHF Microphone?

Or would you recommend a camera-mounted directional mic instead?

Thanx!

Dan

I've had one for several years and it's never let me down. Make sure you select a model featuring the "diversity" configuration, particularly if you expect to use it in radio-noisy urban areas.

My only criticism of mine is that the transmitter and receiver are made of rather flimsy plastic. Strap it to the back of someone's slacks and then listen for the "crunch" when they sit down. (This has not happened to mine...yet.) I ultimately upgraded to an Audio-Technica system featuring metal casings.

Are you talking about the miniature, airline wireless samson. That's what I use and it's been great. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to switch frequencies, but filming in the middle of nowhere which is where I always am, it's yet to be an issue for me.

thanks guys. I'm not sure if the one I'm looking at has "diversity configuration" as you mentioned, but I'll have to check.

Thanks again,
Dan

I lost an antenna on my Samson and was truly disappointed when Samson sent me this limp piece of wire and called it the antenna "replacement".

The THREADS DIDN'T EVEN MATCH! How are they being sold nowadays, with an actual antenna, and has anyone been able to get a legitimate replacement antenna directly from Samson?

As Ken said, the Samson UM32 is made of plastic but it seems tough enough for normal use to me. I used one all last year with no drop-outs and no interference. It also works great with the AX1 butt plug that I use to convert a handheld Sennheiser mic to wireless. I like the light weight of the Samson receiver because it velcros securely to the GL2.

thanks for the tips.

any opinions on the Canon DM-50 directional Mic which mounts on the GL-2?
Would this be better for situations where more than one subject is involved?

Thanks,
Dan

That would not be an apples-to-apples comparison. Two different instruments for different jobs.
