Behringer cheap battery mixer
 

Anyone used one of these? Behringer Eurorack UBB1002 | Dolphin Music
Looks like a very low cost location mixer that runs on batteries, Ok I know behringer will never match an SQN or sound devices but it may be worth a look for budget drama/indie production.http://www.behringerdownload.de/UBB1...INFO_Rev_B.pdf

I bought one two years ago to subsitute for my Alesis firewire mixer for an outdoor stage performance requiring 4 mikes.
Its simple to use, the sliders work well and I've never had any issues with the sound quality despite its low price, in fact I tend to use it more often than the Alesis these days.
Downsides are that it gets through a set of batteries in around 90 mins so a stack of rechargeables is advised. And it only does 24v phantom power, but all my RODE mikes take batteries, so no problem.

It is an excellent budget Mixer. However:

1] The Clipping LEDs don't work on battery power. And this is NOT such a small issue, while if on site you want a quick refernce "view" as to what is happening. I mean it! - You may NOT want to Can-up to check the state of play at the mixer?

2] I needed to return my first one as it was severely hissing and the sliders were not brilliant. I got my next from "another" supplier, and this remains in working order. Make absolutley sure you aren't getting a 2nd hand or RETURNED mixer.

3] Yes, you DO get a lot of mixing for a portable. But you seriously may want to think about NOT having ALL that available for a not so demanding event? In which case get this AND a more portable mixer. I am serious. The prices are too good not to think about this.

I have the MXB1002. As far as I can tell it is exactly the same. The UBB is the newer model. I have been using it for years and it works extremely well for the stage productions I shoot.
However, I have never used it on battery power so I cannot speak to the caveats mentioned regarding battery power. On AC power it works extremely well and is very versatile.

A friend of mine has one of the older MXB1002's. They work, although my only comment would be I found the sound to be a bit harsh and very tiring. I got one of the worst headaches of my entire life after a two-hour talking-head gig for my friend using his mixer and my 7506 headphones.
Of course I was also running prompter, sitting in an odd position and a bit hungry so I can't blame it all on the mixer, but I did notice how unpleasant both the mic pre and the headphone amp was right away.
Your mileage may vary of course and there really isn't much else around that's battery-powered at that price.
