best hypercardiod for indoors
 

I'm looking for the best hypercard to complement a rode ntg-3 for narrative work. I do have a oktava mk012 available. Anybody have other suggestions?

Audio Technica AT4053b, AKG Blueline Series SE300/CK93 combo, AKG ULS Series C480/CK63 combo, Sennheiser MKH8050, Sanken CS-3e, and the industry standard Schoeps CMC641.

I don't know about sound quality, but it's significantly heavier than the oktava and most hypers, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're booming it.

the sound is superb (NT3) and it is a bit heavy but manageable.

To my ears, the sound from the Rode NT3 hyper is much more rich and dynamic than the Oktava. Plus it's more resistant to handling noise. So personally, I'll use the Rode NT3 hyper any day over the Oktava. In fact, I'll use the NT3 over the AT4053a. The trade off is the size/weight of the NT3 hyper.

Usually, mics from the same manufacturer match better, so the NT3/NTG-3 combo might work quite well.

Superb? We obviously have different different definitions of the word.

A Schoeps cmc641; that's about as superb as you get.

At ten times the price, I hope the Schoeps is better than the Rode.

At half the price, the Rode produces a sound more compatible to the NTG-2 than the Oktava.
