problems with ma-100, low sound level

My problems started when I bought things without having enough information. I didnīt know about this forum yet! But itīs my fault.
I have a good shotgun mic, sony C-74, and I bought the ma-100 adapter for my xl-1. I tried to get batteries for this mic but I learnt they were too expensive and hard to obtain. I looked for phantom suppliers in my city and I found a cheap one that I thought it was enough.
Result: with my xl-1, this mic, the ma 100 and the phantom supplier the input sound level is very low. I think everything is ok with my camera configuration.
What is wrong? preamp is the problem? (my ignorance about sound is remarkable but I want to learn!) Reading through the forums I have learnt about mm-1 sound device, beachtek products and so on. What can i do? Throwing away all what I bought (and the money with it)? Is there any solution?
Thank you for your patience to read this

I'm curious, what sort of phantom power supply are you using?

Josema Herraiz June 26th, 2004 03:39 AM

Itīs a black box, XLR input output connections, fed by a 9V battery, 12-15V AC/DC supply....
as I am reading...perhaps my mic needs higher power than 12-15V?
Another question: I have used the mic twice. The first time I used it, it was fed by a mixer with phantom power. The sound level was acceptable. The problems came when I used this phantom power supplier.
The power or the preamp? The mixer had preamp for the mic I guess. Maybe the preamp of the camera is not enough for my mic?
Sorry if I am saying nonsense. Thank you for your patience

its not good, the 74 need 48v ph , you cant work with that box

Hsien Yong June 27th, 2004 01:31 AM

Yeah you probably need a phantom power supply that supplies
48V... AKG & Shure have models that run off a 9V battery.
