Sound effects

Hi - Looking for an arsenal of sound effects, not music or spaceships sounds but real life sounds such as foot steps, glass breaking, doors slamming, etc, any recommendations?

I have a document with a fairly long list of library sources on my site in the Artiles Archive.

Hollywood Edge has 100 free SFX, excellent quality.

The main Sound Ideas library (6000 series IIRC) is fairly good. It has a pretty decent range of sound effects. Their search tool is great, but it includes SFX from libraries you don't own which can get annoying.

Sound Ideas is buyout. If you own it, you should digitize the stuff to your hard drive (I recommend iTunes, but use a format your programs like; vegas for example won't play well with VBR mp3s). This can save time if you work with SFX frequently.

I haven't worked with libraries other than Sound Ideas so I can't say how they compare, but Sound Ideas will work well.

There's also sounddogs.com, a searchable online SFX library. I see a lot of the Sound Ideas stuff on there.

Look around the web, you'll find my review of Sony Pictures sound FX library. I've got dozens of effects libraries, but I've yet to hear any that are as good as the recently released library from the Sony Pictures archives. They're pretty unusual, too.

Of course it does.
Turn of "Import at Project Tempo" in your Options/Prefs/Audio preferences.

I'm backing up Dave in suggesting sounddogs.com. I've used them for years. They almost always have what I need or at least something I can use.

Stay away from the production music though. Mostly old 80's buyout stuff. Unless you want that kind of thing. I've actually used some of the cheesier stuff because it has that 'edge'.

Best of luck.
