5 dB inline XLR attenuator
 
Is there such an animal? Just need something to
take the edge off. Not looking to use a
Beachtek-type box. Not looking to make it
myself.

Never have seen a 5dB, just 10dB and more. Maybe Calrad offers something like this, Shure and AT don't have anything like that.
I would think 10dB would be ideal, no?

and you can't just pull back the input gain on whatever you're plugging it into?

What are you plugging it into, btw? and what situations are you finding it too hot?
