Shotgun mic for Z1

I'm looking to buy an on-board shotgun for my Z1 for one-on-one interviews. It's primarily for mixing a bit of room presence in post. My primary sound comes from an ECM44B lav.

I've tried the NV-1 from a PD170. Seems to have a fair amount of handling noise. Would the Sony EMC670 be better isolated? Or would folks recommend something else in its price range?

I'm very impressed with my Audio-Technica AT-897.
You can read more reports on it by making a search on this forum.

Robin

Took your advice and did a search of the archives (something a newbie like me should do in the first place). Strong endorsements for the AT-897 from you and others led me to buy one today.

Thanks

You'll love it. The 897 is by far the best mic in it's class, and it can almost be used well indoors. Sits very nicely in the cradle of the Z1, no doubt.

It sits nicely after I wrapped a few elastic bands around the barrel.

But it's longer than the Sony so has to come off the camera to get the camera into its case. I'm not complaining. It's well worth the slight inconvenience to get the better sound.

897 question

Is the 897 good fenough to use on a boom for a scene in a feature? I guess that is a question for Spot.
