help transferring a SFX library from mac to PC

my film school friend has graciously allowed me to fully copy his SFX library off his mac, which is about 40GB of .aiff files which he previews using itunes. my PC can read and batch convert .aiff's, but since neither of us know much about mac-PC cross compatibility regarding file transfers, we've been having trouble just getting the files onto my computer. can anyone suggest the quickest and least painful way to do this? we could burn numerous data CD's but I don't think they would be readable by a PC, correct? audio CD's are out of the question, we'd be stuck there burning hundreds of discs. i have a PC-formatted LaCie firewire drive and we both use firewire, ideally for us the best method would involve some straight firewire transfer from mac laptop to my PC desktop or from the laptop to my firewire HD to my desktop or some other way involving firewire, but I'm not sure of the logistics of this. does anyone have any advice? thanks!

btw my friend uses OS X and I have Windows XP, SP1

40 GB is a lot of data to transfer. PC formatted HDs wont recognize Mac formatted HDs. I probably would setup a small LAN have a few beers and come back later. hehe. if i think of anything else I will post again. hope it helps a little.

Plugin the firewire and it should work. Assuming you're formatted for Fat32. OSX should read and write that fine.

I read and write my FAT formatted USB keyrings on my Mac without a problems.

The laptop should be able to boot up as a quasi-firewire drive if you hold down a certain key during the boot-up. (I forget which one it is, but a quick google search should find it?)

Just another way to do it.

Just curious...Your friend allowed you to "graciously copy" his sound library? Who paid for the original library?

hehe nice point spot. anyway, what can we look forward to on your visit to Hawaii?

I forgot about the firewir4e drive capability for Macs. I cant use it on my PC because its NTFS.
