Sony Z1 External Microphone.

Hi all,

We're just about to buy a Z1 to replace our ailing DV kit, and being a cameraman (and therefore not knowing much about sound, other than it's importance!) I could do with some advice on a good mic...

I'm aware that the standard choices are probably a Sennheiser K6/ME-66 module and the AT879 (I think) at the lower end of the budget scale - what are people's opinions on these as compared to each other and what sort of price should I be looking at in the UK?

Also, we're thinking of potentially buying one of the Sony microphones in a package with the camera - what is people's advice on this? Are they good mics, could we use one on a boom pole instead of an ME-66, should we get both, etc etc???

Many thanks in advance for your guidance for this poor unknowledgable soul!!!

Dominic,
I'm using the AT 897 on my FX1 and I'm extremely pleased with it - and so are my clients!
I also use it on a fishpole with the Rycote holder and Softie.
The mic cost me about £200 and the Rycote £170.
Hope this helps!

Robin
