studio 1 xlr-pro ground cable

got the unit yesterday, and it looks perfect for what i need... a second pair of xlr ports in addition to my ma-100.

i have a question regarding setup... the ground cable is an rca jack with a pass through. the manual clearly states that the ground cable should be connected to the camera's right audio OUT jack. i have an xl1. the only audio output when in shooting mode is the headphone jack. however, there are two pairs of audio rca-type jacks that are used for audio INS (they turn into OUTS only in vcr mode). do you think running the ground cable into one of the audio INS would be ok? if not, and the ground indeed needs to be connected to an audio OUT, do i simply convert the rca jack to a miniplug? i'd hate to do that and lose my headphone jack.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Henry,

I believe that both the Audio and Video jacks are live outputs when you are shooting with an XL1s. I assume that the XL1 is the same.

I would test this for you, but my XL1s is on assignment tonight. You can easily test this by going into camera mode, and connecting the audio and video out to a suitable tv or monitor.

I would follow the instructions, even if the audio out is not enabled on your XL1 it should still be a good ground.

dan,

thank you for your help. unfortunately, i have active video out during shooting on my xl1, but the two sets of audio jacks are INS. i'm running the ground cable through one of the right channel INS, and haven't had any problems... yet.

thanks again...
