Getting a deep base bell sound

I have a loop that is essentially a church bell with a mid sounding base (the sort you here in those small mid-western towns). I am looking to transform this into a deep base bell sound (the sort you here from mountaintop monasteries). I know it can be done, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get that rich sound in audition or soundforge. Do I need to get a particular plug-in or what.

I am an audio newbie, so I'm interested in hearing the answer, too. Perhaps the Resonant filter in SF would help? It can create some powerful bass sounds.

In Cool Edit this would be done with the stretch/compress function. This function preserves the shape of the waves but changes their frequencies.
