What happened to M-Audio BX8 Monitors?

I just logged onto B&H to purchase a set of M-Audio BX8 monitors and they no longer have them listed. I checked a few other sites and they are listing them as close-outs/discontinued. I checked the M-Audio website and they are still listed there. Has M-Audio done away with the BX8's or are they coming out with a replacement. They sounded like good studio monitors for the price and now I will have to figure out what to buy in their place. Thanks.

Bx-8?!?!

Hi,

Same problem! After all the advice I got from you wonderful people, I have finally settled on the BX-8! Now, these are discontinued everywhere!

What happened?!

Looking at the m-Audio website, the speakers are listed there as model BX8a, not BX8. Could it be the speakers you guys are seeing listed as being discontinued are an older pre-"a" model?

Steve,

I kind of thought that maybe they just had a newer model coming out but B&H isn't listing anything for the BX8 at all. Usually if they update a model B&H will list the new model with a accepting orders or coming soon status. I haven't found anything but close-outs for the BX8 anywhere else either. Maybe they are just behind in issueing a new model. I might try emailing the customer support at M-Audio and see what they say.

I just got a catalog for a popular music supplier
where the DX8a is listed. Also is on their website.
Oh, I also see that B&H now lists it, as well.

Difference between BX8 and BX8A

Hi, yes, they are back on the market but it seems with a different look and also an "a" added to the name.

Does anyone know what the main difference/advantage is with the newer one? The old BX8 now sell for $299, free shipping. I am thinking about getting the old ones because of the price.

I think price tag is $499, you could find them at a couple of places for $399, now I see you can get them for $299.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

The "a" ones now sell back up at $499 I think, it will take a while until we can get them cheaper. My question is - are you losing on something new and big if you go with the old ones?

Here's a little info on the BX-8A model compared to the BX-8. There isn't a whole lot of information here, but the differences don't appear to be huge:

Thanks for the link!

Yes, the differences do not seem to be numerous/ hugely important.
