Can I fix this?

Hi all. My friend gave me some video he shot of an event. I captured the video and quickly found that the video looks fine, but the audio is really bad, clipping/over-driven sounding. After interrogating him about his set-up, we deduced that he was running his shotgun mic through a field mixer with output set at line level. His camera, a Canon GL2, only accepts mic level inputs.
I've improved the sound somewhat with EQ and de-esser plugins, but I'm definitely not happy with the results. Any ideas on other ways I may be able to save this audio? Thanks! Andy

You could try Izotope RX, I've had good luck with their declipper although it can't fix everything. I think there's a free demo period with the download. john.

Thanks for that! I don't hope for this to ever sound "good", just passable for a non-commercial project. This video is only for the actors involved. I will try that. Andy
