Quick Question: AT875 or AT897? Why?

Happy new year!

That is my question.

This is what I know:

AT875 is shorter, just a bit cheaper.

AT897 can use a 1.5v battery besides phantom power.

I am about to buy one of those, but it will be nice to have your opinion about which one is better in terms of sound quality.

What do I have?
HMC-150

What do I want it for?
Indoors and Outdoors interviews and medium shots for a short film. I DO NOT want to use it on a boom pole. Just attached over my camera.

I will really appreciate your input and if you can explain me any other differences between both besides what I mentioned above.

Kind Regards and Happy 2010!

As I mentioned just now in the other thread, if you insist on using the mic attached to your camera, neither one is going to sound any good in the vast majority of your shots. You might as well flip a coin to make your choice since both of them will sound equally crappy in most most of the time.

The 897 has slightly better specs for signal-to-noise, dynamic range, maximum sound pressure level, and a tighter pattern. Physically the 897 is longer than the 875. The 897 also has a low frequency roll-off switch which is handy for helping tame wind and handling noise.

Steve,

Understood. I will use it with a boom pole then. So now, could you please answer the question below?

Thanks very much for you input on both threads!

Best Regards!
