Rick, I just enjoyed the open, clean sound of the BLUE Dragonfly. Shotgun microphones are not meant to be used indoors as their design relies on a point source. Reflections from nearby walls and floors alter the pickup pattern, right? When I mounted the Audio Technica shotgun and the BLUE on the camcorder, I always preferred the sound of the BLUE despite its wider pickup pattern.

Initially, I needed microphone to pick up sounds that were quieter, so I decided to use both channels of the camcorder with different microphones: one set at a lower gain than the other to avoid triggering the limiter which can not be disabled in the Sony EX1. I'm videotaping indoor action sports (martial arts) that move around in the space of a two car garage. So, the signal varies wildly, and I didn't want to use AGC.
