When I'm using the AT897 indoors, I don't bother with the softie - there's bound to be a loss of higher frequencies with it...

Hi I have a few 875R mics and use the rode pistol grip and the WS-6 softie, tend to leave it on all the time but for drama shoots indoors take it off to cut down on shadows.
This is the combo and it works well:Rode WS6 Windshield + Rode PG2 Pistol Grip shotgun mics on eBay (end time 21-Feb-10 15:35:28 GMT)

I also use the mic on the camera and have cut down a ws-6 and re-glued the rubber ring on to make it shorter.

There is a clip of the mic being used inside without the softie here:YouTube - 0004OS - iPhone.m4v
And outside with the softie here:YouTube - 00104R - iPhone.m4v

I always use the softie with my AT897 indoors. The mic always seems to pick up subtle wind sounds when the boom moves back and forth.
