NTG-2 connectivity
 

I am looking for a shotgun to use on bot my camcorder and DSLR. I can get the NTG-2 for a good price, but how do I connect this mic to the minijack on my camcorder and DSLR?

Keeps your cables balanced if the NTG-2 is on a long run away from the camera

The cheap way - using an XLR to stereo minijack cable. You need to be sure it's wired correctly - it's the mono balanced mic to stereo input version you need.

It is unwise to extend these cables as the whole cable between the mic and the camera can end up as a giant antenna for random RF rubbish

Using such a cable is not reducing sound quality? I mean, I am buying the NTG-2 because of better quality then for example the Rode Videomic. Also for better directional skills. But if I sound impoverishes with cables, then there is not use to spend this extra money.

Using balanced cables with something like a Beach or Juicedlink XLR->1/8 converter box on the camera end will not degrade the sound quality over any cable run you're likely to encounter. Using a simple XLR->1/8 adapter cable, on the other hand, unbalances the entire system and runs the risk of picking up electrical noise if the cable is more than about 3 metres long.

Anyway, I want to use the NTG-2 on a canon hf s camcorder. Will it not be too long?

AND

would the basket from the Rycote Universal Camera Kit fit the Rode Videomic too?
