Random Oktava vs. Schoeps comparison

Its another random "clip comparison" which people argue is meaningless. I thought I was getting some distortion in the field off my mixpre. Mucking around at home to make sure nothing was malfunctioning, I hooked up both the octava mk-012 (sound room) and the schoeps cmc6-mk41 (b&h) and was trying various loud and quiet noises and weak and strong batteries to see if i could reproduce the distortion I had heard.

It ended up being the batteries. Kinda annoying there isnt a visual indicator on the mixpre that the batteries are crapping out. I assumed the green light would go amber or something.

Anyways, since I had both mics hooked up I decided to record a comparison (on fresh batteries). This clip is both mics at normal boom distance and height. (my full arm's length over my head and in front, aimed down at my mouth, the capsules an inch beside each other.) Both mics are preamped by my sound devices mix-pre and the line output run into a roland r-09 recorded 16 bit 48k. Its just me in my average living room with wooden floors and the fridge running nearby. I figure this is a pretty fair comparison of a typical "in the field" scenario.

Anyways, thought I'd post it for the ongoing "how awesome is the mk-012 compared to the schoeps?" debate. Take it with whatever salt you desire.

cheers!

Its stereo panned, so you might need to split the tracks or use headphones or something for a decent comparison. (I doubt computer speakers will reveal much... especially if you monitor both tracks. hehe.
