Most comfy headphones for long hours of use?
 

I have read the Audio-Technica ATH-M40 are nice... But how are the Sony MDR 7506 for long shoots?

The 7506s are comfortable but don't give much
isolation from your surroundings so if you plan to
be shooting in any loud environments ...

The 7506 are reasonably comfortable, but not nearly as comfortable as the ATH-M40fs (as long as the extra un-coiled cable doesn't get in your way).

I'm wearing my 7506's and I had to remember they were on. I often sit for hours not listening to anything while I wear them just because I don't think about it.

I think they'd be fine for any field shoot and excel as editing phones.

Just got a pair of Sony 7506's and find them very comfortable and they sound outstanding.

I use the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO.

Awesome headphones. Period.

I did a ton of research before I bought them. They are comfortable and have 32 dB attenuation on surrounding sound. They seal so nicely my ears almost pop when I take them off.

Anyway, just a suggestion from my experience.

Do those 280s grab to the head pretty tight?
I need something with more isolation than
my 7506s but I don't want something that will
be uncomfortable.
I've also heard of the Senn HD 25s but, from the
pictures, those some to go on top of the ear
rather than over the ear. Can anyone confirm this?
I would think going over the ear would give
more isolation, but not sure about this.

The Sennheiser Pro 250s are very comfortable in my oppinion. Just last weekend I did a wedding and kept them on all day including the reception. They don't feel tight but just right. The padding is very soft like a soft leather couch.

Just a note from personal experience: I'm sure everyone is aware of this, but be nice to your headphones, they're somewhat delicate and cost a lot and are extremely valuable for monitoring sound. Avoid pulling on the wires, esp. the Sennheisers.

In my experience, Sennheiser headphones do not hold up as well as Sony, due to stress on the cabling. Not sure about the Audio Technica phones. I don't treat my headphones as nicely as I should: I have two Sennheisers (including one pair of the 280s) and two Sonys (Including the 7506) and have used them extensively in the field over the past eight years. I've had to repair the wiring on both Sennheisers. The Sonys I have never had to repair. One Sony and one of the Sennheisers look like crap (the cheaper models), the vinyl coverings over the foam are torn and natty, but the Sonys continue to work whereas both of the Sennheisers I sometimes have to tug at the wires where they enter the cups to get them to make connection.

My favorite earphones are the Etymotic ER4 models -- I hear Shure has a version that are also inserted into the ear canal. Once you get used to them, they are comfortable but I doubt everyone would find them comfortable. :) But great isolation.
