ADAM Ax series monitors

Hi everybody,

lately I upgraded my audio gear (mics, recorder, etc.). The last few days I have been researching audio monitors. I have almost decided what brand it wil be: ADAM. Yes, I know, there are a lot more, but it felt so good today when I brought it down to just 1.

My editing room is about 3,5 x 3,5 meters and has no sound treatment (and it won't get it for the next one or two years). It's just full of gear you need for editing (pc, monitors, etc.), a lot of books against the wall, a sleeping cat, etc..
At this moment (don't laugh) I monitor audio using a consumer amplifier and some JAMO consumer speakers.

The most editing I do is for low-end corporate films (budgets run between €1.500 and €7.500) and higher-end wedding video's (budgets between €1.500 and €4.000).

So, what woud be the best choice, for me, when I have to choose between the A3x, A5x and A7x. I know the A7x is the best of course, but I just spent too much money on the gear I mentioned above to make that jump (I think). How much is the difference in quality between the A3x and A5x? Will I be able to hear the better quality of an A7x in a room as I just described?

I will monitor sound with it from a Tascam DR-680 recorder, Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro and a E-MU 0404 soundcard.

Regards,

you won't need big monitors as you have the worst option for audio, relatively small room which is basically a cube, it would be a havoc even with sound treatment, let alone without any...

having said that, my editing room is 3.5 x 4.5m, with some treatment and I'm very pleased with my adam S2A's.

which ever you get, just get them at least 0.5m from the wall and try to have them on good heavy speaker stands, avoid light shelves like plague!

I've been mixing on A7s for 2yrs and love 'em .. before the A5X and the A7X appeared and I've heard a burnt in pair of those and agree, the X upgrade rocks.

Reading your post about room size, projects and especially budget, I'd look seriously at the 5X. If you can stretch to the 7X even better. On a desk also get audio decouplers like these ..
