Dynamic mic in front of speakers?
 

So i've got an XHA1, and i believe the on board mic is damaged...
When i get near loudspeakers, the sound distorts (clipping). No matter how much i attenuate or bring the levels down, it's a losing fight.
I can verify this because the second XHA1 in the same location doesn't have the same issues..

So here's my question.

I've got an Elector-Voice PL24S (Supercardiod) mic, and a Sennheiser G2 eng kit with SKP 100 transmitter..
The venues i tape for, usually have the speakers on stands, about 7' high..
Can i simply put a dynamic mic on a mic stand to within a few feet of the speakers, and transmit wireless?

Will i damage the mic? I was thinking about putting it just under the speakers.

Wouldn't expect it to damage the mic but 'a few feet' might not be close enough for optimum results. In front of the cabinet, aimed directly at the speakers at as close as you can be and still have all the speakers within the pattern of the mic would be better than under or off to the side aiming in at a shallow angle.
