Bag for SD 302 and PMD661
 

Anyone using this combination of gear and have a bag they want to recommend? Looking for the smallest lightest bag that will hold the mixer and recorder snugly. I don't need any extra storage space.

The PMD661 was great on it's own, but annoying when used with a mixer (in a bag) because the controls are on the front, instead of the top (when hanging), and the XLR inputs are on the bottom, instead of the side.

Since I'll be getting it mail order, I need to know in advance that it will work.

I am in the same boat. Some of the audio bags from Kata, Petrol and Porta Brace look huge. Think Tank Photo has smaller ones, but not with shoulder straps and they may be too small.

I may try the Sound Devices case, meant for the 302, made by Camrade. There is a front pocket, meant for wireless receivers, that may work for the 661.

The Petrol PSDMB302 case interior (as measured by me, in inches) approximately 6.5 deep x 9.5 wide x 4.5 Lots of Velcro dividers, two zippered pouches w/wire thoughs, two clip on pouches and a large clear window cover flap. Much more configurable than the SD or Portabrace.
My 660 stuck out an inch or two on the top, but the 661 is smaller.
Though I did not use the 660 much in a bag configuration there was ample room for the 302, 660, 3-G2 receivers, a UM-400a Lectro transmitter, extra batteries and other odds n' ends.

I assume you mean the alternate bag (the PS607 Deca Mixer Bag), as the one you listed has been discontinued. The stated interior dimensions of the PS607 are 9.3 in. x 4.1 in. x 6.7 in. It is available on B&H's website, and looks interesting.

More than likely, there may be some NOS available if someone had the inclination to call around, probably discounted too.
Out of curiously, I'll take a look-see of the new models when I'm downtown next week.

thanks for the replies, that was exactly what i was looking for.

both the new and old petrol bags have the exact same stated dimensions, so it looks like the 661 at 6.5" will just fit.

Take into consideration the added depth of the XLR plugs on the back/bottom of the Marantz, so right-angle XLRs may be warranted, unless you use the side panel 1/8" mini line-in.
The 660 did not have the option of line/mic switchable XLRs.
