Heavy Duty Handheld Mic Clamp?

I have this:

I'm having difficulty finding something just a bit more heavy duty. Any suggestions?

Please clarify. Are you looking for something with a beefier microphone CLIP?
Or are you looking for something with a more positive positioning system (vs. flex shaft).

I don't see what part of that has anything to do with "handheld"?

For parking a weighty mic when it's NOT being handheld?

The type shown in the link has a tendency to wilt over time as alas do many inexpensive mic supports.

"For parking a weighty mic when it's NOT being handheld?" YES

I have this mic. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/336615-REG/Audio_Technica_ATW_T341C_ATWT341_3000_Series_Handheld.html
It can barely be supported with my clamp. Can't seem to find anything heavier duty.

No offense... but why on earth would you want a handheld wireless mic mounted on your camera?

If you need to carry it around on the ready for an interview, get a cordless drill holster from hardware store and keep it on you like cops keep their flashlights.

Yes a beefier microphone clip will help do the job. The gooseneck we have is probably adequate but the clip is something we fuss with whenever we use it (wasting valuable time). Tighten the crap out of the wingnut and it still can barely support the weight or barely open wide enough to clamp. I just wish that B&H carried something one step up from it.

I don't want a cordless mic mounted on my camera but I do sometimes want to mount a mic near a sound source at a time when I'm 100 feet away for example.

Does it have to be a clip on type? The trouble with heavy duty clips is that they can require a real effort to fit and especially remove at the end of a tiring shoot. I have some lights which have a clip option and they are at the limit of my strength. The first one is difficult enough, but the last one is a killer.

Could you not use a conventional desk or floor stand at least some of the time?

Craig Terott November 28th, 2010 10:25 AM

I like the clamp method whenever it's feasible. We carry sooooo much damn equipment already. The clamp eliminates a stand (which can not be packed in a camera bag like the clamp/gooseneck can).

Hi, guys.............

I reckon that if you couldn't modify something here: CAMCORDER MOUNTING BRACKETS

to do what you want, you're not trying.

Or is a spring calmp more up your street?:

Plenty more where that lot came from.

Re: Heavy Duty Handheld Mic Clamp?

Try Google with Manfrotto clamps

Not primarily designed for mics, but sure can be adapted. Then think about camera rig monitor extension arms and mounts. They are way stronger than you'd think, and can be adapted to anything.
