Senn. G3 Static
 

I've got a Senn. G3 with a tiny static problem that I wondered if it was fixable. Right now, I've got them set up on the same channel (of course), and it's picking it up loud and clear. The only thing is, occasionally I will get sort of a wavy noise (not really crunchy - maybe more like a cricket chirping). If I touch the receiver, that seems to fix it. But the antenna isn't curved or anything, nor am I moving it a lot when I touch it. Tonight's example was inside, straight in front of my subject, whose mic was 4 inches below his collarbone. Anything that might help reduce this sound? At the time I didn't think to change channels, but could that be part of it?

You could try:

Getting all concerned to turn off (NOT silent, but OFF) all and any wireless mobile devices, of any flavour, within a 100 yard radius, that might just fix it.

I have occasionally gotten periodic interferance in G2's from cell phones, which apparently check in with headquarters from time to time. Blackberries are the worst. Other possiblities are a bad mike wire and interferance from other radio sources near your frequency. You might check Find Available Frequencies to see if there's something overpowering you near your chosen frequency. But the chirp thing sounds like cell phones to me...

and did you simply try changing the freq because something is stomping on you ? did you scan for clear freq's in the first place ? getting stomped on happens.

however, if touching the receiver makes it go away, it may be a problem with the receiver. basically you body is a big capacitor in this case and changing the tuning slightly :(

I'd also check by wiggling your mic's wire and capsule to see if there is simply a bad wire

phone interference only happens within 0-maybe 5 ft. after that you are normally safe.

Sure thing. This example is from a wedding Saturday. This noise was more of a popping static than what I described above. One thing I noticed about this example is that I didn't have any issues when I faced the bridge and groom straight ahead, but when I moved to the right (as in this example), that's when the popping started. After a few seconds of popping, you can tell I touched the wire, and no longer had the problem. Please note that the pastor did not have his own wireless system (mine was the only one), although I'm sure there were as many cell phones there are there were people (200).
