Cleaning Up Audio in AVCHD Video Files
I recently started working with AVCHD video files. In the past, when working with DV AVI files, I imported those files into Adobe Audition 3 to clean up the audio or sweeten it. The import option is not available in Adobe Audition for AVCHD files. Are there any stand-alone audio programs that can import AVCHD files?

Why not just bring the AVC video file in to Premiere Pro and send the audio component to Audition from there?

Yes, "Why not just bring the AVC video file in to Premiere Pro and send the audio component to Audition from there? I'm surprised 'Audition' will not open the file directly.
Other options? Sound Forge Pro will open an AVCHD (MP4) files. You can save the embedded AAC audio of the file as uncompressed PCM and process without further quality loss. I don't know if the budget 'Sound Forge Audio Studio' will, but it does support AAC. If you need multi-track capability, have you tried Audacity? (free).. How about 'Vegas' or Reaper. |
Re: Cleaning Up Audio in AVCHD Video Files
Thanks for the guidance. I'm not working with Premier Pro and can't use that option unless I decide to change editing platforms. My version of Audition (Ver. 3) is stand-alone and can't import AVCHD files. Reaper appears to be very comprehensive and I will be taking a closer look at it. I don't believe that Audacity can import videos. It looks like my best options might be Sound Forge Pro or changing my editing platform.

Installing a 30-day trial of PremierePro could always be enough to do the job if it's a critical do-or-die issue for you.
