Recording times on the Tascam DR40

Hey errbody. I have had my DR40 for a few weeks and on a 16GB SDHC card, the most I get in stereo mode is 6hrs and something. On the H4N I always got like 21 hrs in stereo and 11 in 4ch. The card shows 12GB free after a shoot but only like 3hrs recording time? Am I doing something wrong here?

Re: Recording times on the Tascam DR40

It depends on your bitrate. I have a H4n and its record duration on a 8GB card varies from 3.5 hours to 16 hours... Your bitrates are probably different.

Make sure you have the latest firmware, earlier version have some problem with recording time or something like that.

So there's a setting that says "size" and the largest size is 2G. The bitrate is 44/16 wave btw.

Re: Recording times on the Tascam DR40

Ok, so apparently what it's showing me on the display is what is potentially left in the "file" it's creating so 1 file vs the whole card which seems a snidge backwards. Is there a way to change that?

When the DR-40 reaches the 2GB file size, (which depends on the file format and other factors) it starts a new file but keeps recording until the card is full. I'm not aware of anyway to change the 'time remaining' display.
