Burning Directly to DVD

Hi.

I am getting ready to tape several live events. I want to be able to burn a DVD directly from my camera as I tape and then use a DVD duplicator to make copies.

I was going to use a sony VRD-MC6 to burn as I tape.

Any better ideas as to how to do this?

I do have a Macbook pro that I could throw into the mix.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Brian

Sure, why not. I use a pair of Sony DVD burners to make live DVDs. Beware that the start-up and shut-down times are significant, so they are difficult to use for short-form, fast-turnaround stuff.

No sure why this is in the Audio forum?

Which camera do you plan to use?

In the past I have recorded to both a regular size DVD Recorder and a Sony Digital-8 recorder (similar to the mini unit you mentioned).

The key was the camera I was using had full manual control, XLR input connectors and audio metering, as well as a firewire DV output.

Using the DV (firewire, iLink) output connector from the camera to the DV input on both the recorders (during separate events) I was able to bypass the auto-level-only audio of the recorders and use the camera's full manual controls and metering.

You can still record using the analog outputs from your camera and/or audio mixer, but the recorder will be auto-audio-level only and there may be some audio/video sync problems.

If everything is combined in the camera first and then output DV firewire to DV firewire input on the recorder, those problems with audio are eliminated.

I use an MC6 frequently. It's a pretty cost effective way to do it.
