Need replacement transmitter... Is it posible?

Hi all,

Recently the transmitter of my Sony UWP-V1 wireless kit died (a bad battery leaked acid all through the internal components) so I'm looking to replace it. I'd like to avoid paying for a whole new kit if possible and was wondering how I can ensure I get the right frequency transmitter. Also, my kit was purchased before the crackdown on wireless frequencies a few years ago (though I'm in Aus so it doesn't apply to me, but might effect what I can purchase these days) so I don't know if it's even possible for me to use my current reciever with any new transmitters.

The frequency range on mine is listed as:

66-67
792.250-805.500mhz.

The compnent name for the transmitter is Sony UTX-B2, (the reciever is URX-B2)

I didn't see any listed on B & H with the same frequency, but maybe I'm loking in the wrong place. Anyboy able to offer any advice to save me from forking out a few extra hundred bucks for a kit?

Cheers,
John

Try calling around the local Sony distributors, one may point you to someone who has blown up a B2 receiver and has a spare UTX-B2 transmitter.

Had the same thing happen to one of our rigs a few years ago, but we caught it before the acid did any real damage.
Baking soda in hot water cleaned it up .. now we take the batteries out after every shoot no matter how tired we are :)

Cheers.

Keep checking eBay also. And there are other online sources of used audio equipment. As you say, 700MHz stuff should be easier to find since it is illegal here in North America now.

Hi John,

I think Sony only sells them as a full kit.

On the other hand, I'm in Brisbane and could possibly make use of your lone receiver.

certainly available in other countries, including UK and US, so I'd suspect a dealer could get one for you (or buy abroad) BUT they are very expensive - components are always so much dearer than the parts in a kit!

That's quite a pleasant surprise. I happily stand corrected.
