Tips for keeping a lapel in a Zoom H1?
 

Hi, I've been slowly moving over to using zoom recorders instead of lots of wireless mics for weddings.

That's been fine when I'm using them on lecturns or near singers etc, the issue arises when I am pinning them on Groom and Ministers.

With the sennheiser lapels on my wireless kits it screws onto the transmitter to stop it popping out.

There's very little to stop a mic popping out of a normal socket especially with a groom rummages through his jacket pocket etc. Of course I wouldn't know anything about it until after the service which would be too late and result in an unhappy client.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

I've been using these mics which are pretty great for the price. For this application I would be using a zoom h1.

Gaff tape. Wrap the cord around the recorder once, then gaff tape the cord to the recorder. Also gaff tape the plug to the socket. Then gaff tape the whole thing so you have a big ball of gaff tape.

Maybe not that much gaff tape, but you get the idea.

Hey Edward, Yeah, that would definitely work. I'm trying to find similar mics with a right angled plug instead that stick out less but I think gaffer tape or elastic bands might be the solution for now.

Yes right angle plug plus gaffer tape.

Within the past year, I purchased some low-profile right-angle 3.5mm TRS plugs. They came from HK, China, but work fine if connected properly with strain relief. Search eBay, they are probably still available. I'll post a photo if I can find one.

As you're in the UK Michael, you might like to take a look at the right angled Neutrik 3.5mm plugs which you can find here for example:

I have no special connection with that company, other than as a customer (WM61A capsules are a great way to make high quality Lav mics for next to nothing!)

Stuff I've bought from there came pretty quickly....

Right angled plugs are the way to go but also have you tried the ultradisk 4016 as it has a smaller profile and a more flexible thinner cable!

Hi Gary, yes I have a few of those two. I bought them on recommendation on another forum (possibly your recommendation.)

Will stick a neutrik right angle connector and see how it works out with elastic bands or something.
