Pretty cool device. I wonder if the auto record feature can be used to auto-magically start recording audio when the DSLR starts recording video. Anyone familiar with that feature on other devices, could it work that way?

Michael, I'm looking quite closely at this device as well. However, I don't think the auto-record function can trigger the DSLR or vice versa... trigger the recorder when record is hit on the DSLR...It is something Tascam might consider down range a bit.

I like the proce point of the device but would love to know how well the pre-amps work when connecting to the DSLR. Better/same as DR-40? Better/same as DR-680? I know it has a new chip infrastructure... but I want to hear a comparison!

Tascam, if you're listening, send me a unit to test against my Zoom H4n, standard camera (Canon 60D) audio w/ and w/o Magic Lantern, and against a friends Beachtek device. You game? ;)

That's a great idea you have. Those power switches have messed me up more than once. The mic has one and the pre amp has one. Sure, the batteries may last a long time but who want's to unnecessarily run down their batteries if they aren't needed.

It's so easy to have the components switched Off until they're needed and so easy to forget to switch them back On when they are needed. A daisy-chain or network switch to automatically turn everything on would be really nice and a battery saver.
