Until the 9000 series came out - this was Sennheiser's top transmitter - excellent unit.

Good to get your take on it. Have you tried the 9000?

I have seen it, but not tried it - I saw it when it was released last year and I did also see a very early pre-production unit back in 2008 or 2009 while they were still developing it.

Sennheiser were working on digital radio for over 10 years, but the technology never really came together until very recently.
  • The quality had to be equal or better than the 5000 series
  • Latency had to be extremely low - ideally about 2.5ms
  • Battery life had to be at least 5 hours from standard batteries that could be bought anywhere
They kept finding, until recently, that they could not get all the parameters at the same time.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the portable receiver will be like when it eventually comes.

Though, personally, I don't really use radio as I concentrate on location recording of classical music for CD release.

Good to read Ty and thank's for the review.

Personally I now just provide a couple of G2 or G3 as part of my std kit but if productions need more than a couple of channels or are not happy with basic G2 (ch70) or G3 (ch38) reception I always hire the high end kit in.
