Roland R 05 & power to 3.5 jack?
 

Hi I'm wanting to buy a small quality recorded and I'm thinking of the Roland R 05 and I'm just wondering if the 3.5 mm input jack allow power to mic as I've a Rode Lavalier thats requires power (2V~5V through all other MiCon adaptors)through it's micon-2 connector with the recorder.

According to the information from Roland, the 3.5mm does provide plug-in power.

According to the information from Rode, the Micon-2 is configured for "a wide range of wireless systems." IME, that does NOT mean that it is compatible with the standard 3.5mm stereo mic input. Now it MIGHT work, but nobody can say for sure. IMHO, it would be safe to try it. Probably no great risk to the recorder or the mic to try it.

Rode is rather worse than your average equipment manufacturer in providing useful specifications, so we don't really know for sure what they have in mind with their vague statement. As far as I can tell, Rode doesn't make a Micon adapter for the standard 3.5mm stereo mic input. Or at least they don't identify any of them that way. But the "Specs" page faithfully reports the weight and dimensions.

Rode even make a TRRS adapter (Micon-11) for smart-phones, but none for the most common type found in consumer electronic audio gear. Oh well, who knows what they are thinking down there in SIdney.

Cheers Richard I've tried the 3.5 with my Tascam DR-40 with no luck only works with phatom power and the RODE sutable connector wondering if the smart lav is the way to go. As I'm after a lav I can use with small recorders the talent can wear in the inside pocket of a suit the Tascam DR-40 is a bit big for this application.

The DR-40 does NOT have a 3.5mm input jack at all. Only the XLR/1/4" combo input connector.

I was confused I've tried the 3.5 micon connector witthe 3/4 channel on the Tascam 60D and it did not seem to work.Just tried it plugged into the 550D though and it seems to work.

It is compatible according to the manufacturer. The use would be with a R-05 in a groom's pocket for a wedding. I am wondering, further, if it could be used with an XLR adapter to plug into an H4N. THe H4N does NOT fit in the groom's pocket.

>> It could be used with an XLR Phantom Power adapter (1/8" mic in). Warning... they ain't cheap. Why not use the H4n 1/8" mic in.. if it has the option.
