where to find 3.5mm TRS F to TS M adapter
 

I had one of these for running scratch audio into a Red, but a client lost it, so need to buy another. For the life of me I cannot find these ANYWHERE. Anyone know where to find them? Lots of 1/4" versions...

3.5mm TRS female input, output to 3.5mm TS male.

That's it. Price basically no object as I'm billing the person who lost it. I paid $6 for my first one, local retail. Will ship from anywhere. Will buy you beer if you can find me one.

Just checked Markertek and they don't seem to list one but they DO make custom cable so maybe drop them an email.

Richard, it will be a cable that essentially unbalances the TRS signal by removing the Ring rather than summing it to Tip.

It's VERY important to know for sure whether the 3.5mm TRS is being used for a balanced mono or unbalanced stereo signal. My guess is the latter since balanced 3.5mm TRSs are rarer than hen's teeth but to get the proper cable one must KNOW, not guess.

Personally I would use a short adaptor cable instead of an adaptor plug.

An adaptor plug can put an enormous amount of strain on the socket and cause it to open out internally and become loose and intermittent.

My personal preference would be to use a rt.angled plug as these just rotate in the socket rather than straining it.

One could use 3.5 TS to 3.5 TS if the audio if the channels are not discreet.
Otherwise the RED Epic and Scarlett input is unbalanced.
Nor would I recommended even using the audio from any of the RED cams.. other than for sync purposes.

Sync'ing sound to the RED makes post production syncing of dual system sound WAY easier, especially for those working in verité and not narrative where one can use a clapper board.

That is simply absurd. That is a 50-cent adapter. You could probably find it at a shop somewhere in your city.

NOTE however, we have still not actually established HOW it should be wired. Until you have a definitive answer to that we are just guessing.

Yes, absurd. Anyone with very basic soldering skills could jump the ring to shield in 5 minutes on a non-moulded TRS plug.

- typically when converting 'balanced to unbalanced', the Ring connector (minus/cold connector is tied to shield/ground. However on some devices, such as the SD-302 XLR outputs, the (minus/cold connection should be floated.
It can be confusing dealing converting 'balanced to unbalanced AND the two channel/stereo TRS inputs.

You'd think that but... Since Radio Shack died, things like this are tricky to get. Not even the big music shops had one (though they did have 1/4 to 3.5 versions).

Couldn't even find it at B&H.

Anyway, I did find one from Amazon BUT -get this- they disabled the check out button until I added an extra $25 of stuff. And that wasn't even free shipping.
