First project - Documentary audio cleaning...

Hi All,

Just some quick advice, i've shot my first documentary and was in the final editing stages, any tips on cleaning up the audio?

Im currently working on a Mac, editing on Final cut express 2, is there any plugins for this program or any free programs on the net? or even demo programs which may do the job?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

soundsoap is inexpensive, works nicely with a mac....

If you're on FCP 2, you've got Peak Bias. I'd use that to clean up all sound, plus use Sound Soap as earlier recommended to kill noise from motors, air conditioning/movement, ect. Do your EQ, compression, widening, etc in Peak.

adobe audition

I messed up the audio badly on a documentary project (very embarrasing).

had lots of his and some digital distortion

My web guy performed wonders on it by using some of the noise filter tools in adobe audition.

If you are interested, I'll put you in touch with him for specific settings.

Also, I think Adobe Audition is based on a program which may still be available as shareware. Anyone know about this? I got it bundled with other Adobe software when I built a second editing system.

Adobe Audition 1.5 was formally Cool Edit Pro. Audition 1.5 is still available on a "free to try" basis from download.com.
