Azden Mics

has anyone done an A/B test with Azden vs. pro shotgun mics?
any opinions on Azden mics? crap? medium quality? good for indoor speech but not much else? etc...
thanks in advance

Well, I'm not thrilled with the Azden shotguns-hot and tinny-compared to say an AT897 it doesn't come close BUT I've been using Azden 500U wireless for almost 5 years and haven't had a single glitch with them and although I've tried other brands I found the Azden 500s performed at least as well as the others-EXCEPTION Lectrosonics which start at about twice the price.
But back to the shotguns---for not much more you can get the AT897 and I think you'll be happier.
BTW, I have an Azden shotgun and a Senn ME66 and the AT897-my fav is the AT!

clip of the azden versus the me66:

unfotunately no clip of the AT897 versus the ME66 as far as I know (and the at897 might be the mic to get). There is a clip of the me66 versus the more expensive at4073 (the general consensus is that the at4073 is definitely better).

two more q's

I'm trying to put together a cheap audio rig for work on indie films

I used a Fostex FR2 for a doc I worked on in Germany last winter and the sound was fantastic so I want to go with a TASCAM HD-P2 which has LTC TC at no extra cost (unlike the Fostex which costs another $600 for a TC card)...

q: how would you supply TC to the TASCAM from a DVX100B camera if you wanted to say print a sync'd back-up to what is going to the camera? can anyone walk me thru what the DVX100B is sending and how to make it useable to the TASCAM for sync?

also I need a pistol grip and zepplin that is cheaper than a Rycote...suggestions?
